Come take part in a classic Breckenridge holiday tradition tomorrow at the annual Lighting of Breckenridge and the Race of the Santas/ Race of the Reindeer. Part of Breckenridge’s Winter Holidays, The Lighting of Breckenridge is the anchor to the first weekend of holiday festivities in December. Come help Santa celebrate the lighting of the Town Tree in the Blue River Plaza. Join the procession as it moves down Main Street escorting Santa’s sleigh.
The Lighting of Breckenridge events start at 1:45 p.m. and include family art, holiday carolers, dance performance, free hot cocoa and more. The Race for the Santas is a six block foot race on Main Street where everybody must be dressed as Santa and the top finishers win prizes including Ullr helmets. The Race of the Reindeer is the kid’s version of the race and anyone over 12 is encouraged to participate. All kids will get reindeer antlers to wear. The Racing commences at 4:15 p.m. so come to run or come to watch but don’t be late. Click here for more information and to register for the race.
The Lighting procession starts at 5 p.m. in front of the Red White and Blue Firehouse. Santa will arrive in his horse drawn carriage. Join in the procession as it works its way down Main Street towards the Blue River Plaza where Santa will preside over the lighting of the Town Tree. The Dew Tour is an amazing event that brings together the best skiers and snowboarders in the world to compete in superpipe, big air and slopestyle. This year the stakes are even higher as the Dew Tour will be a 2014 Winter Olympic qualifying event for the US Ski and Snowboard Team.
