Breckenridge Welcomes the Dew Tour this December 13 – 16

Competitor at Breckenridge's Dew TourThe Winter Dew is back! Coming to Breckenridge on its only winter stop, the Dew Tour brings together the world’s best athletes in extreme winter sports. The competition includes slope style and super pipe and includes both skiing and snowboarding. Athletes include Shaun White, Scotty Lago, Louie Vito, Tom Wallisch, Nick Goepper, Kelly Clark and more.

The New format of the 2012 Dew Tour will feature more competitions, including ski and snowboard big air, as well as a Film Night and concert that will take over downtown Breckenridge. Last year’s Dew Cup winner, Louie Vito, will aim to gain his third consecutive Cup during the winner-takes-all weekend.

Along with the competition the Dew Tour has been known for its cutting edge music and free concerts. This year is no exception as Hip-hop artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis headline the weekend with a live show at the Riverwalk Center in downtown Breckenridge on Saturday, Dec. 15th. Known for their unique beats, candid lyricism, and catchy choruses, Macklemore and his producer Ryan Lewis hit the Dew Tour on the heels of releasing their album The Heist, which topped iTunes’ Albums chart and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200.  After two sold-out national tours in 2011 and a combined 60 million views on YouTube, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have proven their ability to excite crowds with their energetic live performances.

This year the Dew tour will celebrate the contributions of film in mountain sports with the inaugural Film Night. Taking place December 13th at the Riverwalk Center, the Film Night will feature the year’s most influential and progressive movies and hear live commentary from the directors, producers and athletes involved in making them.  Fans will have the opportunity to vote online for their favorites before the Dew Tour declares the iON Viewer’s Choice Award winner on Sunday, Dec. 16.  Athletes will also have their opinion heard through the Athlete’s Choice Award, also to be announced on Dec. 16 on the Dew Tour Facebook page.

This year the village area will be bigger and better than ever. The Dew Tour Experience will be at the Peak 8 Base Area and will feature boots and attractions from the Dew Tour and its sponsors. Breckenridge Lights up for the Holidays

As we get closer to the holiday break the excitement of winter increases. From the colorful lights that adorn businesses and homes throughout town to the expanding terrain and ski conditions on the mountain there is a current that builds and attitude that says, let’s get into it and have a great season.  We can feel the vitality that is the holiday and ski season filling us with energy and excitement.

In many ways the holiday season signals a return of winter and skiing as it is the first major break in the winter and snow conditions are generally greatly improved from Thanksgiving. December events frame the holiday starting with events such as the Snowflake Challenge, Dew Tour and Holiday Window Competition culminating with Ullr Fest at the End of January.

When visiting this December take time to stroll up and down Main Street and look for the holiday window displays. The 3rd Annual Merchant’s Window Display Competition takes place in the first half of December and is open to voting through December 14th. Visit all of the wonderful holiday displays that have been set up by participating merchants all along Breckenridge’s Historic Main Street. This Year 16 shops are participating. The way the Window Competition works is each participating shop organizes a team, decides on a theme and builds a beautiful window display. A panel of Judges will vote on the winner and visitors are encouraged to vote for “People’s Choice” at each participating shop.

The Winter Dew Tour comes to Breckenridge for its only winter stop December 13th.  The Dew Tour showcases the world’s top skiing and snowboarding talent as they meet to compete in various extreme sports including half pipe and slope style. The events are free to all and take place at the ski area as well as in town. The events includes on mountain competitions, a cool village area, free concerts and more!

Ending the holiday season Breckenridge Ullr Fest marks an end and a beginning. Ullr Fest is Breckenridge’s annual week long homage to the Norse god of snow and ushers in the height if the winter ski season. Ullr Fest starts a week of events January 6th and culminates on Thursday with the Ullr Parade. The true character of Breckenridge comes is on full display during the Ullr Parade. Thousands of people turn out to enjoy the unique and zany floats and characters that make Breckenridge the unique and eclectic mountain town that it is.

Lighting of Breckenridge is this Saturday!

Come celebrate the start of the holiday season with Breckenridge’s annual tradition at the Lighting of Breckenridge. As always Santa will pay Breckenridge a visit and lead a procession down Main Street the Blue River Plaza, where he will proceed over the lighting of the town tree. This event draws thousands and is the perfect family activity. All you need to do is show up at the Subway at the corner of Wellington and Main to follow the precession. There will be treats and hot chocolate, caroling and holiday revelry.

One of the newest additions to the day’s event lineup is the Running of the Santas starting at 4 p.m.. This event is a zany trot down Main Street with hundreds of Santas! The Running of the Santas is open to anyone and you can register here.

Here is the schedule of events for Saturday

  • 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Kid’s Craft Activities.
  • 4:00 p.m. – Race of The Santa’sin Street.
  • 4:45 p.m. – Santa arrives (via horse-drawn carriage) to lead a procession to the Blue River Plaza (South Main and Washington) for the lighting of the Town Tree and the plaza. All are welcome to join the procession.
  • 5:15 p.m. – Tree lighting in the Blue River Plaza. The procession will end in the Blue River Plaza.
  • 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Visits with Santa! Let the little ones share their Christmas wishes with Santa at the Barney Ford Museum Located on Washington Street.

This year the 3rd Annual Breckenridge Merchants Window Competition takes place Thanksgiving week! The way the Window Competition works is each participating shop organizes a team, decides on a theme and builds a beautiful Window Display.

There will be a First and Second place winner awarded by a team of judges.  Everybody is encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice winner. People’s Choice voting will start on Friday November 23rd and go through December 14th. The winners will be announced in conjunction with the Breckenridge Snow Flake Challenge Amateur Snow Sculpting event.

While walking Main Street from Nov. 26th through Dec 14th Vote People’s Choice with your donation inside your favorite merchant, the merchant with the most money will be awarded People’s Choice and all proceeds will be donated to the Adopt an Angel program.  Look for the sign in the window (see image).
