The Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships are coming to Breckenridge

A sculpture from the ice sculpture championships in Breckenridge ColoradoEvery year in the end of January in Breckenridge 16 teams from around the world are invited to come to Breckenridge and leave there mark even if it is only for a short period of time. Using only hand tools these teams have 5 days to turn huge 20 ton blocks of snow into beautiful works of art. From geometric shapes that boggle the mind to whimsical fun sculptures to serious and thought provoking entries the sculptures work tirelessly to create amazingly intricate sculptures that capture the creativity and talent of these incredible artists.

The Snow Sculpture Championships take place at Breckenridge’s Riverwalk Center and is free and open to the public. One of the most enjoyable aspects is the opportunity that spectators have to walk through the event at all hours and interact with the artists. The artists are very friendly and love to engage spectators and talk about their creations.

Make a point to come out starting Tuesday January 24th and watch the creation of these massive sculptures. The sculpting takes place all week and on Friday the sculptures go all night racing the clock to get finished by noon on Saturday. Saturday is the busiest day of the event as the sculptures finish and the judging begins. The awards ceremony is held on Sunday afternoon where 1st, 2nd, 3rd and People’s Choice are awarded.

Stay tuned for more details and a full event schedule coming soon!
